The Legal Department provides legal advice and assistance to officers and representatives of the International Union and its affiliates. The department focuses on various issues, including federal labor law, civil rights law and prevailing wage concerns. In addition, the department handles internal union matters, including guidance on Constitutional issues, development of the uniform job referral rules with the General Executive Board attorney, and creation of rules, procedures and guidelines to implement union internal reform policies.
