DOE Approval of Jordan Cove Energy Project Puts Thousands of Good Jobs in Reach

Family-supporting project labor agreement will offer good pay, good benefits and new career paths for hardworking men and women

Washington, D.C. (March 24, 2014) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today on the U.S. Department of Energy’s approval of liquefied natural gas exports through the Port of Coos Bay:

We applaud the Department of Energy for approving gas exports through the Jordan Cove Energy terminal in Coos Bay. The $7.7 billion project is estimated to create 3,400 good jobs at the peak of construction. With a family-supporting project labor agreement already in place, communities surrounding the project will benefit with good paychecks, good benefits and skills training that will open the doors to future opportunities. We encourage a rigorous, but expeditious and efficient, review process so that men and women in the still depressed construction industry can get to work and provide for their families while strengthening our economy.
