Washington, D.C. (October 22, 2015) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today on the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s mark-up of a transportation bill:

I would like to congratulate Chairman Shuster and Ranking member DeFazio along with all of the members of the House Transportation and Infrastructure committee for putting aside partisanship to work across party lines to pass a multi-year surface transportation package out of committee.

The Surface Transportation Reform and Reauthorization Act of 2015, if enacted, will make our roads and bridges safer, and create good jobs.

Today’s mark-up is a reassuring sign that Congress can put partisanship aside to work together for crucial investment in our nation’s infrastructure. We urge the Congress to “go big” and build sustainable investment into the program.

It is time for the House of Representatives to follow the example set by the Committee and work together and with their colleagues in the US Senate to see that a well-funded multi-year highway bill becomes law.
