Thousands of Construction Jobs Killed
Washington, D.C. (July 6, 2020) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today:
Today, thousands of hardworking LIUNA members, who spent years acquiring the skills to build the Atlantic Coast Pipeline safely and to the highest standards, now do not know where their next paycheck will come from.
The cancellation of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline is yet another example of a broken process which is killing construction jobs by the tens of thousands for working families. Project after project is collapsing under the weight of lengthy legal and permitting battles. Developers are becoming unwilling to take risks with a regulatory regime that is politicized and unpredictable.
It is time for meaningful reform of our infrastructure review and approval process. LIUNA members are ready to build America and we will be on the frontlines with our allies to push for good jobs building our infrastructure.
