Washington, D.C. (May 30, 2023) – Brent Booker, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today:

LIUNA commends President Biden and Senate and House Leadership for reaching a bipartisan agreement on the debt ceiling, which with speedy Congressional passage, will prevent a global catastrophe.

The agreement, known as the Fiscal Responsibility Act, preserves historic investments made by the 117th Congress, including the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act. It also marks a step forward on permitting reform which will have the immediate positive impact of ending needless delays, which have hampered completion of the Mountain Valley Pipeline.

For now, the time for debate is over and we urge the full Congress to send the Fiscal Responsibility Act to President Biden’s desk as soon as possible.
