Washington, D.C. (May 14, 2024) – Brent Booker, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today:

LIUNA commends Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and Chair Willie L. Phillips, Jr. on the landmark rule to update our nation’s transmission grid policy to better streamline our systems and connect renewable energy to our grid. Rule 1920 is a milestone decision that will move projects forward that have otherwise remained stalled due to grid capacity constraints, and it will address the mounting transmission issues we are facing across the country.

This policy update will clear the way for thousands of gigawatts of power waiting in the queue for connection; including the projects LIUNA members are building to meet our nation’s energy needs.
