LIUNA Applauds Investment in Water Infrastructure

Washington, D.C. (April 4, 2023) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement
today:

LIUNA applauds today’s announcement of federal investment of $6.5 billion in drinking water infrastructure by the Biden Administration and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The investment is creating pathways to middle-class jobs and helping communities improve their drinking water systems; including removing harmful contaminants.

LIUNA members are working nationwide on our drinking water systems and eager to continue this work with these investments.

President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will invest over $50 billion in water and wastewater infrastructure improvements across the country through 2026 with $3 billion invested in lead service line identification and improvement, $800 million to address PFAS and other contaminants, and $2.2 billion in other critical drinking water system improvements. Additionally, approximately $500 million will also be available through the DWSRF annual appropriations, established by the Safe Drinking Water Act.

LIUNA looks forward to working with the Administration on the continued rollout of these historic investments, which are creating good, family-supporting union jobs and improving our drinking water.
