LIUNA applauds the House for passing the Dream and Promise Act HR 6

Washington, DC (June 4, 2019) – LIUNA General President Terry O’Sullivan made the following statement following the passage of H.R. 6, the Dream and Promise Act:

LIUNA commends the House for passing H.R. 6, the Dream and Promise Act, protecting immigrant workers with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Dreamers. Both TPS beneficiaries and Dreamers have spent many years, in some cases decades, contributing to our country, caring for their families, working, and paying taxes.

The construction industry is acutely impacted as 20 percent of TPS holders and 11 percent of Dreamers work in construction, literally building America every day.

We now ask that the Senate follow suit quickly and pass S. 879, the SECURE Act, and S. 874, the Dream Act, to protect these hard-working families.

The half-million members of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – are on the forefront of the construction industry, a powerhouse of workers who are proud to build America.
