Washington, D.C. (September 21, 2023) – Brent Booker, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today:

LIUNA commends the Biden Administration and the Department of Homeland Security for helping so many immigrant families with the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) re-designation for Venezuela. This announcement follows the Biden Administration announcement, earlier this month, extending the re-registration periods for TPS-holders from El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, and Sudan.

One third of TPS-holders work in the construction industry; including many thousands of skilled union members. These hard-working tradesmen and women are needed to build the critical infrastructure of our nation.

LIUNA also looks forward to working with the Biden Administration to get re-designations for all TPS nations.
