Washington, DC (Oct. 23, 2024) — Brent Booker, General President of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) made the following statement:

LIUNA is proud to endorse Olivia Henderson for Washington, DC Council Ward 8. Olivia has been a union member for over 16 years and for 14 years has served as a Ward 8 Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner.

 

Olivia has been a tireless advocate for her community and through her role on the Advisory Neighborhood commission has focused on improving public safety and economic opportunity in Ward 8.

 

Olivia knows that unions lift people out of poverty and into the middle class. That's why she aims to increase union job opportunities in Ward 8, including union apprenticeships in high schools and community centers, recognizing that while not everyone goes to college, everyone deserves access to good-paying jobs with strong benefits. Additionally, Olivia supports youth rehabilitation through apprenticeship programs, creating successful careers for young people in the community.

 

LIUNA wholeheartedly supports Olivia Henderson for DC Council. We are confident that her dedication to community advocacy and vision for expanding union job access will improve the lives of residents in Ward 8.
