Washington, D.C. (September 24, 2020) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today:
LIUNA thanks Representatives Abby Finkenauer (IA-1), Susan Wild (PA-7) and Hakeem Jeffries (NY-8), for their amendments to the Clean Economy Jobs and Innovation Act (H.R. 4447) which provide strong labor standards and establish a grant for union pre-apprenticeship training programs to ensure a pathway for new workers to enter living wage, union apprenticeship programs to support energy jobs and put skilled union building tradesmen and tradeswomen to work.
However, the legislation also contains provisions that further seek to hinder the construction of important energy infrastructure. LIUNA opposes such unnecessary job killing proposals and will continue to work for legislation that expands job creation in existing and emerging energy sectors by providing a wide range of opportunities to uplift all workers, instead of destroying good union jobs that support our members and their families.
