Washington, D.C. (September 30, 2020) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today:
Today the Congress passed a one year extension of the Highway Bill at existing levels as a part of the agreement to keep the government funded into December.
The extension provides some stability for states to continue important transportation infrastructure projects for another year, but unfortunately falls short of the long term reauthorization that we had hoped for.
LIUNA will continue to work with stakeholders to encourage passage of a robust, long-term, Highway Bill reauthorization with new funding levels that reflects the employment needs of displaced American workers, improves America’s crumbling transportation infrastructure, and is supported by user-fee based revenues.
