Washington, D.C. (April 25, 2023) – LIUNA leaders from across the nation who were gathered at the North America’s Building Trades Unions U.S. Legislative Conference, spent the afternoon visiting dozens of lawmakers and urging Congress to address key priorities to protect good jobs for LIUNA members.
“Infrastructure investment with strong labor standards is of the utmost importance to LIUNA members who do the hard-work of building our nation’s roads and bridges, transit, and water and energy systems, said LIUNA General President Terry O’Sullivan.
In meetings, LIUNA leaders emphasized the importance of protecting labor standards in recently signed bills; including the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Inflation Reduction Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act.
LIUNA leaders emphasized their strong support for the nomination of Julie Su as Secretary of Labor. “Julie Su is the best choice to protect the rights of working men and women at the Department of Labor,” said O’Sullivan. “She has a proven track record of effectively working with both unions and the business community and we hope to see her confirmed without further delay.”
LIUNA, who packed the halls of Congress on Tuesday afternoon, is also pushing lawmakers to move forward on a clean debt extension, comprehensive immigration reform, the PRO Act, permitting reform, voting rights and to ensure that good jobs in the federal sector and postal service are protected.
