LIUNA Praises Congress on Passage of Water Resources Development Act

Washington, D.C. (December 22, 2020) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today:

LIUNA praises Chairmen Representative Peter DeFazio and Senator John Barrasso along with Ranking Members Representative Sam Graves and Senator Tom Carper on passage of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2020, which will create good jobs for LIUNA members building our nation’s water infrastructure. The spirit of bipartisanship, which was crucial for the passage of this legislation, is commendable and a testament to the importance of infrastructure, regardless of political persuasion.

Passage, which was part of Congress’ year-end spending bill, will unlock thousands of construction jobs with authorization for the construction of 46 Army Corps projects and 27 feasibility studies for water resources development projects, and authority to appropriate $2 billion in additional funds from the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund for much needed infrastructure improvements.
