LIUNA Praises Gov Raimondo Selection for Biden Cabinet

Washington, D.C. (January 7, 2021) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today:

On behalf of the 500,000 strong, proud, and united men and women of LIUNA, I want to thank President-Elect Biden for nominating Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo as Secretary of Commerce, and congratulate Governor Raimondo on this well-deserved appointment. Governor Raimondo has been a good friend and trusted ally of Laborers and all workers in the great state of Rhode Island. A bold, progressive leader who is not afraid to make tough choices, Governor Raimondo supported a wide range of projects in Rhode Island that generated good-paying, middle-class union jobs. Her steadfast insistence that all infrastructure jobs, including those in the renewable sector pay strong, family-supporting wages and benefits provides a model for how to build an economy that leaves no one behind. She is a true champion of the working class who knows that our nation’s most valuable assets are its working men and women.

Joe Biden could not have made a better choice for Secretary of Commerce than Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo, and on behalf of myself, General Secretary Treasurer Armand E. Sabitoni, and the entire General Executive Board, we look forward to working with her and the Biden Administration in the months and years ahead.
