Washington, DC (January 20, 2024) — Brent Booker, General President of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) made the following statement:
On 69 occasions over the last 236 years — since the inauguration of George Washington in 1789 — our nation has celebrated the transfer of presidential power. Today we do so again. It is the acceptance of the will of the people that makes the United States the longest continuing democracy in existence.
In every election there is a victor and after every election there is still America, a nation built by the blood, sweat, toil and tears of the working class.
In the months ahead, we will continue to be the hands that connect us to each other by building roads, bridges and rail. We will continue to be the boots on the ground that power our homes and cities by constructing energy systems, to be the strength that erects buildings and factories, and to be the hearts in public agencies that serve the people.
We will be an equally fierce and effective power in defense of the union way of life and look forward to joining with the Trump Administration and all elected officials in advancing the opportunities and benefits of union membership to every construction laborer and every worker.
