Washington, D.C. (March 30, 2023) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today:
LIUNA thanks Members of Congress for bringing much needed attention and dialogue to the importance of permitting reform in their efforts to advance H.R. 1. While this legislation contains many provisions LIUNA supports, others we have concerns with.
Too often, projects, which LIUNA members depend on to support their families, are delayed or stalled by endless challenges during the permitting process. Congress needs to restore order and certainty by reforming the process to protect good union jobs and ensure that critical energy infrastructure projects are built.
LIUNA urges both Democrats and Republicans to come together on a bipartisan solution so that we can ensure that the permitting process is fair and not used as a vehicle for killing or stalling important projects.
