Statement of Brent Booker, General President of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, on Senate Confirmation of Chavez-DeRemer for Labor Secretary

“We look forward to working with Secretary Chavez-DeRemer to stand with the men and women who build America”

Washington, D.C. (March 10, 2025) — Brent Booker, General President of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), made the following statement today on the U.S. Senate’s confirmation of Lori Chavez-DeRemer as U.S. Secretary of Labor:

On behalf of the more than 530,000 hardworking men and women of LIUNA, we applaud the U.S. Senate confirmation of Lori Chavez-DeRemer as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor.

Our members are a skilled and experienced union workforce who build our nation’s critical infrastructure and who provide crucial public services. We know that when our members have strong relationships with their employers, the workforce and the nation do better. When workers in the construction industry, and throughout our economy, unite and collectively fight for family-supporting wages and benefits, world-class skills training, and safety protections, we all succeed.

LIUNA supported Secretary Chavez-DeRemer during her time in Congress based on her impressive qualifications, history of supporting workers' rights, and expressed support of key policies such as the Registered Apprenticeship Model, the PRO Act, and Prevailing Wages. Given her career-long advocacy for working people, we believe that our members will prosper under her leadership as Labor Secretary. We look forward to working with the Secretary to stand with the men and women who build America in the months ahead.
